Diane Maclean

Born 1939 London, parents Scottish. 1956-9 studied modern languages at University College, London. 1980-5 studied art at Hertfordshire College of Art & Design. Initial works in wood and stone, specialising in large outdoor pieces. Since then mainly working in coloured steel from her home in St Albans. She has works at University of Surrey (Triple Ripple), Jesus College, Cambridge, and Keele University; also at Chelmer Valley Park and Ride, Essex, her sculpture is mainly based in the Home Counties. Working as an environmental artist she produced a night time walk with Malcolm Innes and music by Bob Pegg and natural sounds for the Scottish Forestry Commission. She exhibited a work called Open Book, a large steel diptych, on the Promenade at Fitzwilliam,Cambridge 2008,inspired by a Gaelic translation. In June 2014 Open Book was gifted and unveiled by Her Majesty the Queen on her state visit to France with President Hollande. Inscribed “An open book we are writing together”.
